Two Thermoforming Companies from One Unique Tooling Technology Idea
FastForming.com LLC, an Ohio thermoforming company, and Sandel Products, a California thermoforming company, are the result of Sandel Products founder, Delbert Reedy’s design experience working with high temperature materials required for the interior of solid propellant rocket motors. Del’s unique tooling technology allows FastForming.com and Sandel Products to provide vacuum forming tools and finished sample thermoformed parts in days instead of six to eight weeks.
After an education that includes a BS in Mechanical Engineering and acceptance into a doctoral program for nuclear engineering, Del spent many years working in aerospace with such companies as Lockheed, Fairchild Hill, Boeing and Aerojet General. Some of the highlights of Del’s impressive career include:
- Working on high temperature materials and structures to demonstrate feasibility of the dynamic soaring vehicle, an air-breathing rocket propelled craft.
- Designing pressure vessels out of high strength high temperature steel alloys
- Participating in the development in an analytical method to predict L* (decompression snuffing)
of rocket motors
Del’s Experience Pays Off For Sandel Products and Fast Forming Customers
Custom Thermoforming for the Western US
In 1974, this vast materials and structural experience led Del to the formation of Sandel Products, a CA based plastics molder specializing in custom thermoforming. To complement his proprietary tooling, Del developed a vacuum forming machine that extracted the sheet from the oven, positioned it over the tool, and formed a part—all in less than two seconds. This synergy of tooling, machine, and custom ovens resulted in parts having the appearance of being injection molded or pressure formed.
Del’s specialized vacuum forming equipment and proprietary thermoforming tooling meant that straight vacuum forming techniques could now be used to produce parts with superior appearance. The process saved customers $$ on their thermoforming tooling costs, enabled them to get parts quickly, and allowed Sandel Products to successfully compete with thermoforming companies many times their size.
Custom Thermoforming for the Eastern US
In 1999, Del’s son James, who holds both a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering, married his Ohio sweetheart, joined the family business, and formed the Eastern US version of Sandel Products: OH based Plastics Design and Manufacturing, today known as FastForming.com LLC. Serving the Eastern part of the United States, FastForming.com uses the same proprietary thermoforming tooling and specialized vacuum forming equipment as Sandel Products, allowing them to offer the same quality thermoformed parts and services.
Today customers throughout the United States enjoy the benefits of low tooling costs and finished sample custom thermoformed parts delivered to their door in days. Contact Del in California or James in Ohio and experience the cost saving benefits this unique thermoforming process provides for you.
